SCENES OF FAR: EXPLORING TULUM WITH KIDS

Our second week in Mexico was in the gorgeous Tulum. We couldn’t wait for a change of pace from Cancun and were looking forward to some serious beach time. We booked a little villa right on the beach. It was simple but beautiful, complete with a swinging hammock and a two second stroll to a private beach. We were set and could not wait to explore this little paradise in Mexico.

Tulum Ruins

This was our only day trip where we went to visit the Tulum Ruins, the only remaining ancient Mayan City. It was hot and I recommend getting there first thing in the morning. This place soon became overcrowded with busloads of tourists. While amazing to explore the crowds were off putting.

Our boys loved spotting and watching all the wildlife, which became a bit of highlight for them. We did travel with a pram but if I did it again I would recommend carrying small bubs in a baby carrier for ease of getting around the crowds and the stairs.

Cenote swimming

We continued to explore cenotes that were within walking distance to our hotel.

Beach swimming

Most of this week consisted of morning walks and afternoon beach days. Our hotel had a private beach and we spent most days here at the beach. It was quiet and a safe place to be with the kids.

Eat

To be honest we never had a bad meal in Tulum. The food was seriously next level! Some of our favourite places to eat at were:

Posada Margherita for great pizzas. The kids loved this place and was super close to our hotel, which also made it super convenient.

Mateos Mexican Grill was amazing and super kid friendly.

Stay

We stayed at Posada-Lamar and I cannot fault this place. They were super helpful and we got a delicious breakfast delivered to our room every morning.

It was a quiet oasis that we loved with the kids and the location could not have been more perfect. The service, the place and location would 100 per cent see us return to this little paradise.

Transport

We had heard lots of things about tourists being targeted by police and so were very nervous to hire a car. We found the idea of a driver an inexpensive and great way to get around. Due to our hotels location you could easily explore on foot or with a taxi.
